Where Did That Go Then!!!

Jack ,Fido and Margarita waiting for Father Christmas or rather Raquel and some nice juicy bones

Blimy it seems just last week that I was waking up with a heavy head after drinking too much wine to welcome in the first sun rise of 2009 and now look it’s gone! Is it me or is the world speeding up. I can believe it’s that time again to wish all of you who endure reading my blog on La Margarita a very very happy New Year and may good fortune always be with you

It’s been a very good year on La Margarita. The rains came at last and eliminated the drought that had plagued us. We planted 200 hectors of soya which is, thanks to the rain and sun, looking very healthy. We purchased a race horse called Amella Cat. It’s in training and will run in about 4 months. It will run first at the new race track that has been installed just a couple of kilometers from La Margarita. All the animals on La Margarita had babies - well the female ones that is. We purchased a few more horses but Dolores is still the favorite. Jack had now calmed down a bit however, with Fido they are still as crazy when a guest goes for a walk and they charge off to chase rabbits with them. We converted three rooms in the guest house to self catering units for independent travelers and they have got off to a very good start and we have already had bookings for them. We had many great guests to stay with us from all over the world and if you came I would like to express a very big thank you for staying on La Margarita its always so lovely to see guest enjoying what La Margarita offers.

Who knows what 2010 will bring but more of the same will be just fine

That just leaves me to say that on behalf of Raquel, Lalo, Lettie, Daniela, Melisa, Maria y moi a very very happy Feliz Ano Nuevo
This is David Cummings alias El English Gaucho off to make sure we have enough asprin for Jan 1st!
PS . Hey Suzy have a great new year

“Fuzzy” Barker Goes Home!

1)Fuzzy sadly leaving La Margarita
2)Anyone for English Breakfast?
3)Pizza Time

It’s great running an estancia at very nearly the end of the world. I get emails from all over the world from adventuress people asking us if we have a room for them on La Margarita. It’s always interesting to meet the guests who eventually make it down to us to hear their stories over a glass of wine. It was particularly interesting to get e-mail from someone called “Fuzzy” Barker and even more so when I realised it was from a woman. “Fuzzy” duly made a reservation in the self-catering rooms we offer here since she was backpacking and had a low budget. The rooms are perfect for guests on a low budget since they have a cooker, fridge and private bath room and the guest can bring their own food and prepare it with also the opportunity to ride horses included in the price - ok that’s enough advertising lets get back to back to “Fuzzy”!

I made sure I was on La Margarita when “Fuzzy” came here. It was going to be interesting meeting a woman with the nickname “Fuzzy”. Would she have a small beard or even a moustache carefully manicured? Maybe when we talked she would be all-vague in that fuzzy way and give answers like that bloke Neil from the Young Ones. As it turned out Fuzzy had no beard (disappointing!) and she was nothing like Neil from the Young Ones. It turned out that she is a Geography teacher (something I used to be in another life) in-between jobs and was doing a bit of travelling alone around Argentina ending up on La Margarita to do some horse riding and to chill out in a hammock while she contemplated her future before heading home! She stayed with us for four days doing just that. At the same time we also had solo traveller Mary with us from the States and the two Alex’s (don’t forget the info please on how to get programmes please) who were on their honeymoon and Jackie and her party of six from Canada (thanks for the Olympic hat present guys very nice). We all drunk lots of wine, rode horses and generally had a great time.

“Fuzzy” has now gone home to the UK and to look for a new teaching job – I reckon with her travelling experience she will make an ideal candidate – if you have a job for her drop me a line and I will pass it on. As for that nickname we never did find out why she had it – she said she would be back so we will ask her then

This David Cummings alias The English Gaucho of to practise my ski moves now I have a new ski hat to go skiing with.
Hasta pronto
